WAYS TO HELP WITH REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT IN OUR LOCAL AREA
If you can set aside a little time each week, or on an as needed basis, you could work directly with refugee families. First, you would participate in a training class and submit to a background check. Then, you could:
- TRANSPORT family members to medical appointments, Social Security or food benefit appointments, shopping, banking services, etc.
- TEACH the family to use public transportation
- PROVIDE babysitting/childcare
- ASSIST with budgeting and bill paying
- HELP with job searching
- TUTOR English language instruction or computer literacy

Alternatively, there are “behind the scenes” opportunities that do not require special training or background checks. Help is needed with:
- DONATIONS Diapers, wipes, and feminine napkins are always needed. There is a Sign-up Genius that is updated regularly with immediate needs, ranging from kitchen items to furniture.
- ADVOCACY Engaging in various efforts regarding refugee support
- FUNDRAISING Is this your passion?
- HOUSING PROCUREMENT Finding affordable housing by contacting landlords, apartment managers, etc.
